I personally didn't like the original 'Phones 4 U' adverts, I found them boring and pointless. They contained really bad crazy actors, who either looked confused all of the time, or just constantly making crazy hand signals. The picture quality of the adverts seemed really bad, the picture was dark and dull, and I think that the advert may have been better if it was brighter. The company came up with the idea of the Phones 4 U hand signals so that the the name would become catchy and remember-able. They made a point of including a woman character named 'Scary Mary' so that people would be able to 'connect' to the experience of meeting a similar person, and apparently, the public did have an understanding of one another that they all knew who the character of 'Scary Mary' was. I can see what they were trying to create with the advertisements but I don't think that the adverts helped to sell the idea of the phone adverts at all.
